During the pandemic, live music was at a hault and anyone in the live events industry that wanted to survive would need to pivot or cross their fingers.

Planet.fans was a startup working on enriching the experience of live events by providing a fairer ticketing system that distributed tickets equally and at random to real fans rather than current queueing system that is far more common from major ticket providers which of course invite bots at a huge scale to buy as many tickets as possible at lighting speeds, leaving fans to have to pay the re-sell fees after waiting waiting for hours queueing online.

I joined Planet during the pandemic, helping them to pivot into a new direction that would keep the business afloat until live events would return.

Involving fans

The excitement around events returning was ramping up in 2021, and around the world the approach to live music was being handled in different ways.

If there was any time to start asking fans what they want, that was the moment.

Imagine if every artist knew their actual fan demand in each market at any given point in time; they could choose the venue that best suited the demand and match it up to supply, they could determine how many nights to do in each city, or just focus on playing the markets with the most appetite/least restrictions, making up for lost time and maximising the number of fans they can play to.

Play where the fans are

  • Shape and personalise tours with real fans
  • Optimise where the show goes using actual demand
  • Gather insight before any tickets go on sale
  • Derisk the return to live events with actionable data
  • Maximise future tour schedules

Engage directly with fans = simpler, better experience

Once we the artist new where the fans were, it then took out all the guesswork of where to play live, meaning they could book the venues, announce the tour and sell the tickets directly to the fans. Artists were able to communicate directly with fans and create unique content experiences through the use of a wallet pass on the fan's phone.
